Pinched Nerve

A pinched nerve occurs when surrounding tissues, such as muscles, joints, discs, or bones, place pressure on a nerve.

This pressure can interfere with normal nerve function, leading to symptoms like pain, tingling, numbness, burning sensations, or weakness that may radiate into the arms, hands, legs, or feet.

Pinched nerves are often caused by poor posture, repetitive movements, muscle tension, or spinal misalignment.

Addressing the underlying source of compression can help relieve discomfort, restore mobility, and support proper nerve function.

A pinched nerve happens when a nerve becomes irritated by pressure from nearby structures such as muscles, joints, tendons, or bones.

When this pressure affects the nerve, it can interfere with how signals travel through the body, leading to discomfort and changes in sensation.

People may notice:

  • Sharp or aching pain
  • Tingling or “pins and needles”
  • Numbness
  • Muscle weakness

What Can Contribute to a Pinched Nerve?
Several factors can increase the likelihood of nerve irritation, including:

  • Sudden injuries or ongoing strain
  • Joint inflammation or arthritic changes
  • Repetitive movements at work or daily activities
  • Sports or physically demanding hobbies
  • Carrying excess weight
  • Natural wear and tear associated with aging
  • Poor posture or prolonged poor positioning

If you’re dealing with sharp pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness, a pinched nerve may be involved. These symptoms can interfere with daily activities and often worsen when left unaddressed.

At Leitner Chiropractic and Massage Therapy, we focus on identifying what’s irritating the nerve and restoring healthy movement to the spine and surrounding tissues—without masking symptoms.
